GUÐRÚN BENÓNÝSDÓTTIR (IS)
Guðrún Benónýsdóttir graduated from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts spring 2000 and spent altogether 7 years in Oslo, studying and working (1995-2003). At the moment she lives in Berlin.
She writes: The last few years (2003-2008) I have been living in Reykjavik, working as an artist participating in exhibitions in several art institutions, both in Iceland as well as abroad. I have also engaged in culturally related jobs by running an artist’s book publication/shop as well as being involved in running a Gallery. In my art I reflect on the essential issues of contemporary art work with reversion to the past; putting aesthetics, imagery, experience, enchantment and perception above the concept. My way of working is often to take ideas apart instead of building on top of them, the thoughts are split into parts and then reorganized in a different context or condition. Visually the works involve a strong reference to stage or theatre settings, and could be described as non-physical or imaginary scenes with a notion of an act or a story unfolding without ever approaching narrative.
