FORUM SCREENING: WHEN THE PEPPER BLOSSOMS - A STORY ABOUT THE SWEDISH EMIGRATION TO BRAZIL (2011) BY ANNA WESSMAN AND NILSMAGNUS SKÖLD

Through letters and interviews, we are introduced to the history of a number of Swedish emigrants who were lured by the green paradise, and the promise of a better life.

Both documents from their time and their decendants tells a story of lies, deception, dreams, hope and loyalty. One might draw parallels to today's migration flows, but most of all, this is a film about history, memory and forgetting.

Wessman&Sköld (Anna Wessman and Nilsmagnus Sköld) are both graduates of the Malmö Art Academy (2001/2000), and have separately exhibited widely. When the Pepper Blossoms - a story about the swedish emigration to Brazil is their second collaboation, which has been screened sevaral palaces in Sweden; Galleri Signal and the People’s Cinema in Luleå. In 2003 they initiated the organisation Institutet för Konstnärer och Konstförmedlare (Institute for Artists and Art Professionals) together with Emma Reichert.
