| HORDALAND ART CENTRE based in Bergen, Norway was established 1976 as the first artist run art centre in Norway. Its activities are based around the exhibition programme with equal emphasis on seminars, presentations and dialogue. Since 1987 HORDALAND ART CENTRE has hosted a Nordic residency programme, from 2008 also open to international artists, curators, writers and other art professionals. HORDALAND ART CENTRE also works with public art commissions (in collaboration with Public Art Norway), a regional and international Outside programme (in collaboration with other institutions) and has since 2007 collaborated with the MA-programme at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts and has an ongoing collaboration with the 5th grade pupils at the neighbouring Nordnes Primary School. HORDALAND ART CENTRE BOOKSHOP carries a broad range of magazines and books dealing with contemporary art and culture. The director of Hordaland Art Centre is ANNE SZEFER KARLSEN. For a number of years she was an independent curator as well as producer of different events and festivals. She was co-founder of Flaggfabrikken - Centre for Photography and Visual Art, is the co-founder/editor of Ctrl+Z Publishing. Anne’s directorship is from June 2008 to October 2014. If you ever have questions about our programme, archives or about Hordaland Art Centre in general, you should get in touch with MARIA LYNGSTAD WILLASSEN who is responsible for information and public programmes. Maria is also an artist, writer, andsometimes an illustrator. She is on the editorial board of Vagant. Her education is from Bergen National Academy of the Arts and the Hordaland Writer's Academy. When our exhibitions are open to the public you will meet BJØRN-HENRIK LYBECK in our reception. He is currently a student at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts and his interest is to cultivate open dialogues with our audiences. All our exhibitions and other activities are produced with utmost care and consideration by PETRA RAHM, who is Hordaland Art Centre's coordinator. Petra is also an artist, sharing studios at Dokken with a group of Bergen based artists. In team with our head technicians ALEKSANDER STAV and BJØRN MORTENSEN our exhibiting artists can focus on their contribution to our programme, knowing that the production will be in their safe hands. Every weekend the gallery space and bookshop will be kept open to the public by art historian ESPEN JOHANSEN. His perspectives on the art on display can be enjoyed while visiting our weekend café. All our finances are kept in order by ANNBJØRG FJELLHAUG who knows the most intimate details of our operations.
