RESIDENCY HYUNJIN KIM (KOR)

Hyunjin Kim (1975, South Korea) is Hordaland Art Centre's resident March 2010.

Hyunjin Kim (1975, South Korea) is an independent curator and a writer, based in Seoul. She recently co-curated the 7th Gwangju Biennale 2008 and has worked for Artsonje center, Seoul (2001–2003) as an assistant curator; Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven (2005-2006) as a research/guest curator; Insa Art Space, Seoul (2006) as associated curator for IASmedia program development; and Gallery27, Kaywon Art & Design School as associated curator. Hyunjin Kim’s previous independent projects and exhibitions include Plug-In#3-Undeclared Crowd, Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven 2006, Sadong 30- Haegue Yang, Inchon, 2006, Ten Years, Please-Jewyo Rhii, Uiwang, 2007 and Movement, Contingency and Community, Uiwang, 2008. Latest she curated Perspective Strikes Back at Doosan Gallery, Seoul, 2009. 

Her recent projects and exhibitions have evolved from her interest in different formalities and attitudes in artistic and curatorial production as a visual politics, as well as their response to the speculation on the notion of community.

During her residency in Bergen Kim will work on a thesis and exhibition project speculating the notion of discretion (the quality of behaving in a discreet way, inspired by French philosopher Maurice Blanchot)  and how it can be seen in artists’ works, and further implemented and presented in the exhibition space.
