FORUM MARGRET HOLZ
Â₌ IN CONSTRUCTION
Margret Holz is Hordaland Art Centre’s resident this April. In this artist talk she will present some of her latest works: Choreographie Lichtlabor, Experiment Krolloper and Simultan.
Holz thinks of herself as both a sculptor and a photographer, she makes colossal wood sculptures and sober black/white photographs. We will see examples of both in her presentation, and the artist will also show how the two practices melt into each other, in single works and in larger projects.
In some works, Holz are determind on using the possibilities of nature materials, or creating a ”natur artificielle”. Yet other times she is reworking our cultural heritage, in Experiment Krolloper for example, where she is reconstructing the history of a German opera house of the 1920’s, or in SIMULTAN07, where Bibliothèque National Richelieu in Paris is the central theme. In …in construction, a project which Holz will also be working on while in Bergen, the artist is studying the relationship between the library and different creative processes, especially looking at Walter Benjamin’s manuscripts from the years he spent in Paris.
Margret Holz (1942) started her art education at Fachhochshule für Kunst in Hannover in 1959, and has also studied at Freie Universität and Universität der Künste in Berlin, which is still her home town. She is represented in several collections, and has also made art for public space. The last couple of years, she has shown works in Paris, Brüssels, and places like the Museum Mitte in Berlin. Holz also took part in the Bildhauersymposion Davos in 2008 and 2009.
