FORUM FREDRIK STRID

Each month our residency guests will present their own work, a chosen theme, a current interest or present their residency project. The Swedish artist Fredrik Strid is Hordaland Art Centre's guest in February. Strid will present his contribution to the trans-disciplinary project PolArt, which he was recently involved in. PolArt is a project where artists are invited to join a scientific research expedition in Arctic Ocean, and is a collaboration between theresearchnetwork Arctos, Tromsø kunstforening and the artist residency at Troms fylkeskommune.

Strid also collaborated with Tromsø Museum and the Stockholm Museum of Natural History for this project. Much of his practice is centred on the themes of nature and museums, where he investigates how nature is represented in the museum. Strid toys with the inherent qualities of museum artefacts and the aesthetics of museum display by situating these objects in a direct dialogue with nature or the objects actual point of origin. He brings the museum into nature and takes nature into the museum.

The presentation is given in Swedish.
