FORUM PER KVIST
THE MUSICALITY OF MODERNISM

Related to the exhibition Len Lye Per Kvist will give the lecture The Musicality of Modernism: Fragments from the history of abstract film and video art.

Per Kvist will give a lecture on the impurity of modernism, on a filmic avant garde which called on a new and medium specific art film freed of all “the traditional debris of literary theatre” and “the tyranny of the plot”, thus creating a purely visual art film, coaxing the “music of the eye” from film – “born from the spirit of music”. The lecture is based on a book in progress, and will give an insight into seminal texts and art works from different periods of the 20th Century.  Kvist will point out how the idea of “painting with time” is essential to understand avant garde film, the development of video art and the abstract video art of today.
