FORUM ARTIST TALK
LISA TORELL

Hordaland Art Center (HKS) will from now on invite an artist/writer/researcher/curator to present ideas directly or indirectly relevant to the current exhibition.

The first in this series of presentations is the Swedish artist Lisa Torell who will have an artist talk on the last day of the exhibition posisjoner by Aud Marit Skarrebo Holmen.

The two artists work with text in different ways. While Holmen largely relies on the audience’s varied experiences and the words’ ambiguities, Torell is pedagogical in her approach, even though there are traces of ambiguities also in her work. She often addresses the audience, yes, you, in her texts, through general themes. Like in the work Identity, definitions and Mantras (2006-2008) which is a long visual poem with text positioned on posters. Identity, definitions and Mantras tells the story about you, yes, you, and your way of relating to the rest of the world through activities like buying “exotic” goods. Torell’s works are mostly narratives, they tell a story, and stories are maybe the oldest trick in the book when it comes to communication and pedagogy. Her works can give you a blow, because it is you she is talking about.
